FAQs

Why should I choose granite for my countertops?
Granite is extremely durable. It is one of the hardest materials known to man and is only slightly softer than diamonds and topaz. Granite ranked #1 in clean ability when compared to six other countertop surfaces including stainless steel. Granite is available in a striking array of colors, and its durability and longevity make it ideal for kitchen countertops and other heavily used surfaces, including table tops and floors.

Is granite more expensive than man-made materials?
Natural stone is competitively priced with quartz surface products, and depending on the stone selected, is often priced lower.

Can you help me with design and color selection?
Absolutely. With more than 13 years experience in the natural stone industry, RockStar is happy to help guide you through the entire process, ensuring you are completely satisfied with the end result.

How long will my natural stone last?
Take care of your natural stone, and it will last for generations.

How often will I have to seal my granite?
We recommend sealing your granite countertops once every year. Sealing natural stone is something the homeowner can easily do. The product is a liquid that is applied to a clean, dry countertop with a soft cloth. After the sealer is generously applied to the surface, the excess is removed with a dry cloth, and the countertops should be allowed to dry. Drying times can vary between 24 and 72 hours.

How do marble and granite compare with poured concrete?
Kind of like how solid cherry compares with masonite.

What is involved with pricing a countertop?
Several factors are involved in the pricing of new countertops: material cost, quantity of slabs, design and edge profile. Once you have chosen a particular stone, RockStar will need either an accurate drawing or a field visit to clarify the all the details. With stone selection and accurate measurements, RockStar can provide you with a quote.

How long does it take to complete a job?
Once we have a template of your countertops, we can usually have your job installed and ready for you to enjoy in two weeks.

Is RockStar Marble & Granite insured?
Yes.

Can you reconnect my electrical and plumbing connections?
RockStar Marble & Granite are highly trained stone fabricators and installers, but we are not licensed electricians or plumbers. You will need to schedule an electrician and/or plumber to complete these tasks for you.

Will bacteria grow on granite?
Bacteria, like any other living organism, needs something to eat in order to live. Bacteria cannot eat granite. Unclean, unkempt countertops can harbor bacteria regardless of what countertop is used. Granite has performed extremely well in testing; performing second only to stainless steel in its ability to resist bacteria growth.

Can you cut on granite or do you have to have to use a cutting board?
Yes, you can cut directly on granite. However, routinely cutting on a granite surface will dull your cutlery.

Can I put a hot pot on a granite countertop?
Yes. Placing a hot pot on granite will not affect it.

Do granite countertops really emit radon gas?
New U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) statements reaffirm that granite countertops pose no significant health risk. Consumer Reports, America’s foremost consumer protection institute, recently conducted its own limited independent tests of granite countertops and found no evidence that granite countertops pose a health risk. In fact, none of the granite countertops tested by Consumer Reports were found to be emitting radon. Learn more about radon click here.
